  • DMV

    Does not mean Department of Motor Vehicles… No, in and around Ï㽶ÊÓƵU it means District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

  • NOVA

    Map of Northern Virginia

    Northern Virginia, encompassing Arlington, Clarke, Culpeper, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudon, Madison, Prince William, Rappahannock, Stafford, and Warren Counties.

  • "The Hill"

    Capitol Hill, located just three miles from campus. The seat of Congress. Also nearby: The U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and Union Station.

  • "The Mall"

    Not a shopping mall, though plenty of retail and restaurant options are close by! This is the grounds in and around many of the city's national monuments and memorial parks. It is maintained by the National Park Service.

  • "Metro"

    Short for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (), offering light rail, bus, and accessible transportation options throughout the capital region. When most residents say "Metro," they generally mean Metrorail. The University's stop on the historic Red Line is Brookland-CUA.

  • "St. Vinny's"

    Students' affectionate, informal name for St. Vincent de Paul Chapel, which nevertheless serves as the "official" chapel of the University. Centrally located near John McCormack Road between Millennium North ("Mill North") and Millennium South ("Mill South") residence halls, the 72-year-old, 300-seat chapel remains a focal point of Campus Ministry and the spiritual life of the campus.

  • The "Pryz"

    Honors Class of 1925 alumnus Edward J. "Eddie" Pryzbyla, who provided the major gift for its construction as an expression of his "love and care for this campus." A favored location for a wide range of events and activities both formal and informal, the Pryzbyla University Center hosted an address by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in 2008.

 

  • Pryz Lawn

    The gently sloping greenspace between Pryzbyla Center and McMahon Hall. Popular location for informal gatherings, relaxing, and the annual Cardinalpalooza celebrating the end of spring semester classes.

  • University Mall

    The expanse between McMahon and Gibbons Halls, adjoining the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Scene of the University's annual Commencement exercises.

  • CV

    Refers to , a student residential community consisting of Camalier, Engelhard, McDonald, Reardon, Unanue, and Walton Houses, which collectively can accommodate approximately 500 students.

    Student slang for the , the University's home for intercollegiate athletics, intramural and recreational sports activities.
